Welcome to Aberfeldy School

Learning is a journey in which all students, staff and whanau ride our WAKA through life and land at  success. With perseverance and positive attitudes we can all take on new challenges and experiences.

Principal's Welcome

It is our pleasure to welcome you to Aberfeldy Primary School in Wanganui – Te kura o Aberfeldy. Our school is set in a beautiful country environment where we are lucky to have a bronze enviro school award.

Aberfeldy school is a small, rural school situated in a picturesque valley on the Parapara Highway 25 minutes from Wanganui. Our school is a full primary, catering for students from year 1 to year 8. We have students from both north and south of the school and attract a number of students from Wanganui itself. We have a school bus servicing Wanganui and areas around the school making it easier for students to get to and from school.

Aberfeldy school is a special place because we are like an extended family – whanau. We all care about each other and encourage older students to work with and look after our little ones.

The Aberfeldy School Board  of Trustees is pleased to introduce our  2025 Acting Principal, Haylee Powell –

Kia ora e te whānau,

Ko Haylee Powell tōku ingoa.

I am a proud māmā of two daughters Jes and Lill, and nan of 5 beautiful mokopuna aged between 11 and 1 years – with number 6 on the way mid-year.  My whānau are my world.  My partner Lawrence and I are both from Te-Ika-a-Māui (Hawkes Bay). My  interests include exercise, rongoa/naturopathy, and most of all, time with my whānau.

I am thrilled to be joining your Aberfeldy whānau this term.  I have 26 years teaching experience and during this time I have taught from Years 0 – 10 in various capacities, and mostly in rural or smaller schools.  I have held leadership roles in curriculum teams, teaching teams, as an Across School leader for a Kahui Ako and as Acting Principal in 2024.

Our tamariki should be given the opportunity to experience success in all areas of life, thus growing their self-belief and enhancing and promoting ownership of learning for each individual.

I look forward to working with your tamariki this term.

We have an open door policy, so feel free to pop in at any time.

Ngā mihi

Haylee Powell
Acting Principal
